I took my gear box to Corry at Collectors Choice today to have the ring
gear bolts safety wired. He said the trannine looked in great shape. None
of the bolts were loose and the gears where in good condition. One thing
that I did notice is the size of the bolts. These suckers are only
about7/16 inch diameter. My ford 9 inch has 1/2 inch bolts torqued to 100
lb/ft. The Zf bolts are only 62 lb-ft. It is no wonder they are easy to
break doing clutch dumps. Oh well, trannie is ready to install now. One
thing we did find is that the S# on the ZF id plate does not match the case
of the trannie. Wonder what has been done there before? Parts changing?

Oh well, Cory was of great help and got it done in 1 day service. He even
let me borrow a socket so I could take the intake apart on the fairlane to
silicone up an oil leak that developed on the way up. (blew out the back
intake gasket) Used 3 quarts of oil going up and none on the way back so
the gooping helped. I did get to see some neat stuff at the shop as usual
such as a supercharged 4.6 motor and the bottom of a ViperGTS since his was
on the rack.
