To answer your ring-gear wiring questions: All the work can be done with the
gearbox in the car, but it's a bit more pleasant out & upside down. Pre-
drilled US-made grade 8 bolts in metric size are probably not available. The
stock German bolts seem to be hardened all the way through which makes them
brittle as well as very hard to drill, so replace the bolts. Get a handful of
045" drills and drill the heads yourself. The proper ss aircraft safety wire
is .032" dia. Do the bolts in pairs- there's enough room to pull 2 at a time
in the housing. Jam the ring & pinion mesh with a shop towel if you pull the
gearbox, to stop it from rotating. Torque the bolts to 70 ft-lbs with a crow-
foot socket adapter (not enough room for a normal socket) & torque wrench
before safety wiring. J DeRyke
