Yes, I just did it last year. I had to pull and replace the sending
unit (the screen was clogged). I filled up the tank with good gas & gas
conditioner additive, hooked up an electrical fuel pump and ran it
backwards. That is to say the gas was pumped into the tank through the
sending unit out from the fill cap.
I repeated this process twice and let the pump run for a few hours.
Than I filled it up with good gas and ran it. I needed to replace the
fuel filter often for a couple of tanks. The only down side to this is
that you end up with about 40 gallons of bad gas you need to dispose of
( my city has a hazardous waste pickup system).
