As far as the brakes go, "or is this the price I pay for awesome stopping
power", yes maybe.  You could install stock calipers on the forward side of
the upright (dry), and connect the parking brakes to those, however MUCHO
extra unsprung weight (and you probably don't have the stock calipers
anyway).  You also could install a hydraulic "line lock" in the brake line
(you step on the brake and press/pull a button to retain the pressure).  I
don't recommend these for parking (controversy on this), but perfectly all
right for holding car while closing garage door, etc.
