| Subject: | Water Temp Gauge |
| Date: | Mon, 8 Jun 1998 18:36:40 +0000 |
I ran across an interesting occurance in the last week. My water temp gauge
always read a touch over 160. It was always stable. Now I believed that
this was not the actual temp, but that there was a series resistor somewhere
lowering the reading. Through a series of mishaps, blown fan fuse and some
other simple problems I had inconsistant readings. I eventually replaced
the sender unit and got a GOOD connection to it. The car now runs steady
around 190, the thermostat temp. Both fans come on, in stages, though it
was a lot disconcerting to see the temp gauge read so much higher.
Now for the question. I'm not going to ask the obvious/much asked question
of what temp your car runs. Cause I remember seeing this answer dozens of
times. But where is this resistor normally mounted? I thought I saw one
under the dash, but I was installing a stereo and wasn't too concerned with
it at the time. I had plenty of other unexplainable wires to look at instead
of a common high wattage resistor.
