Unfortunately, the European governments believes in walking before
driving, and hence have put heavy taxes on cars. If you think the
prices in England are high, you should check the Finlandian and
Norwegian prices, not to forget Denmark. There it's roughly
double the price anywhere else in Europe. Germany is probably one
of the "cheaper" in this top category.
Just an example. In sweden we have to pay about 400,000 SEK
(Swedish Krona) which is close to 50,000 $ for a Chevy Tahoe, which
I guess cost something like max. $ 30,000 in U.S.
But on the other hand we only pay 40% in income tax + 25% VAT on
everything else, and fuel is roughly 4 times yours.
Yeah, life is really fine and easy, I can't complain.
