Yo My Peeps,
After a few weeks of down time I got the Pantera back on the road again.
Today was my first real shake down cruise.
I got up at 5AM, grabbed a cup of joe and headed down the great Pacific
Coast Highway a half hour later. As I headed down PCH I couldn't help
but smile at how perfect everything felt. The new 3-way adjustable
shocks, springs and delrin bushings felt very serious. Not bone jarring
or harsh like my brothers vette - just very firm and serious. It felt
great and I looked forward to a cruise similar to the one CurtT,
CrazyDave, Chainsaw and the boys made on Wednesday. Heading south on PCH
past Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and up through the Laguna Canyon road
and back again to Huntington Beach. About a one hour cruise with no
stops or racing.
Now at 5:30AM about the only cars you see are working delivering
newspapers or doing the same thing as me - going for a cruise or
looking for a street race. I wasn't looking for a race and hadn't driven
a mile when this white slant nose Porsche with Biff with the long
streaming blonde hair rolls along side. Ten years ago I might have given
him his daddy's money worth but today I decided to just blow him off and
continue cruising along the ocean at a leisurely 50 mph.
A little while later a guy on a Harley Buell pulled along side and gave
me a thumbs up. I'd seen this guy in the past on PCH and I waved back
and we cruised along together side by side for about 5 minutes until yet
another Porsche appeared, drove up behind him and blipped it's throttle.
He pulled right and the guy in the red Porsche Carrera pulled even with
me. I looked over at him and grinned! Quess that scared the sh** right
outta him because he quickly looked away and went after the Buell with a
vengeance. I am like in this buda-zen like mind set. You know the
feeling. . .no woman, no kids, no problem!
I was just about ready to pat myself on the back for outstanding
maturity in the face of adversity when this brand new
still-got-the-dealer-plate Corvette convertible pulls up so close behind
me that he must of thought he was Dale Eanrhart. He's got his top down
but his windows up!!! Oh man, here I was minding my own business, trying
to be at peace just taking a early morning cruise and this FU**KING
dweeb with more money then brains has got to bring out my bad side and I
haven't even had breakfast yet. I waved him around me and when he pulled
along side I blew him a kiss. Quess that disturbed him because he gave
me the one-fingered salute and kicked the new Vette down a gear and went
by me like I was standing still. I couldn't hear his car but he was
moving, probably going 90-100 mph. I hadn't driven another 10 minutes
and as I pulled into Laguna Beach I see the all too familiar blue and
red lights of a Laguna Beach patrol car. Sitting in front of it was the
new Vette. Ahhhhhh, vengeance is mine! I downshifted to a crawl and
drove by flashing the lights. Need any help officer!
True Story! Don't speed through either Newport or Laguna Beach
If it gets any better then that I don't want to know about it! <grin>
