You think that the words Vintage Challenge had some meaning to the "plastic
boys"...
You would also think that they could find 10 cars (that run) in the
era....and then
10 boys willing to drive for 90 miles.....
I told my wife about this, and she offered to drive one of their cars....Now
with the
weight of her right foot, she would likely go WAY over her class speed, IF
and big IF,
the car could handle a constant floored condition.....and make it to the
finish.
She once was in a car where the fuel line ruptured and the back of the
engine
caught fire at speed, somehow, she realized that if she slowed down, it
would
get worse, so she continued to drive floored....flames flapping around the
engine,
but the wind speed kept the flames from reaching the fuel pump until the
full tank
of gas was empty. With the fuel line cut it only took about 10 minutes to
drain the
tank and coast to the side "flame free". When I asked her why not just shut
off the
ignition to stop fuel flow...her answer was without power steering, she
might not have
the strength to swerve around cars on the busy highway.....
After the review, it turns out she made the right decision....one in a
million chance....
I would not advice anyone to continue to drive a car on fire...
(Since she is too short for my car - to reach the pedals, it is safe from
her, hee hee)
