I ran into some brake trouble this weekend. There are two symptoms but
I'm not sure if they are related. First, following a hard stop, the pedal
feel change. It's not as firm as it was and it seems to take more travel.
Could be the master cylinder but it doesn't feel like others that I've
had trouble with. Second, immediately after the first symptom occurred,
the parking brake quit functioning. The parking brake problem was traced
to the hook connection at the parking brake adjuster under the car. It
had somehow unhooked. I reattached it but it falls off whenever I release
the brake. It's adjusted to the same spot as before (when it worked fine).
Is there something that could cause both symtoms or are these unrelated
events?
FWIW, I was planning on rebuiding the brake system as a preventative measure
so I have caliper rebuild kits, SS braided hoses, and Porterfield R4S pads
ready to go. I'm still looking for a master cylinder kit. I don't think
any of the vendors carry one. Has anyone tried the interchange list Fiat
parts (Fiat #4115452 for 1968-1971 Fiat 850 sedan wheel cylinder kits)?
I'd also like to remove the pressure limiter function. Can you just gut
the device?
Thanks,
Dan Jones
