Advice needed - Lets pretend, in 1995 you sent a ZF to a well
respected ZF transmission man [after speaking to him on the phone
several times] to dis-assemble, evaluate the condition of the
components, return the case to me so I could polish it myself and send
back for re-assembly with the necessary part
replacement to make it OKFINE again. The transmission seemed to work
OK
when I removed it from the engine - no unusual noise; shifted ok;
didn't pop out of gear or anything like that. What kind of prices are
currently for transmission work?
For instance: Dis-assembly; inspection/evaluation; dusting/cleaning;
re-assembly
= $1,OOO. I have never discussed any pricing or quotes with the
man.
My main question is: After I get a quote, is it 'out-of-bounds' for
me to have the dis-assembled parts returned to me for another
opinion/quote? Someone on this list
mentioned a vendor [in Texas?] and gave him rave reviews. I'm sure I
could find this in the archives. I wouldn't pull this job from one
person and send it to another
just to save $2OO-3OO. But I have heard some frightening stories out
there about
super high ZF charges. I have also heard it said "we all get our
parts from the same supplier!" Of course, if the 'quote' is
reasonable, I wouldn't shop around for another quote - I'm just trying
to get a $ range of what to expect.
