Yo My Peeps,
I've been buried in paper at work the last two days so excuse my not
getting back to many of you off-line before this.
Here's the update on the BFG R-1 Race Tires.
I got a call from Dave Sanders this morning and they are on schedule for
the R-1 vintage size race tire re-production. Next week tires that have
been on back-order are "supposed" to be shipped. I was also told they
will continue to build the following vintage 15" tire sizes in the R-1
tire::::::
225/60/15
235/60/15
255/60/15 (27" TALL)
26550/15
NO OTHER VINTAGE 15" R-1 RACE TIRE SIZES WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE FUTURE
Dave also indicated they have finally realized an "official" release
date (We will see!!) for the replacement R-1's, called the "G-FORCE", if
you haven't been following this thread. While they haven't "officially"
announced the tire sizes that will be available it is expected that the
range of 17-19" tires will INCREASE and the range of 15" & 16" tires
will DECREASE. I have been told they are planning to make the G-Force in
225/50/15 and 265/50/15.
As an aside, keep in mind a couple things.
1. You'll have to order the reporduced vintage tires from BFG. The
old R-1 supply is dried up.
2. While you CAN NOT get these vintage R-1 race tires from Tire Rack
or Discount Tire YOU will be able to buy the G-Force tires from the tire
distributor's. . .
3. Discount Tire will not only offer "shaved" tires but will ALSO
offer "heat-cycled" tires (someone else on the site can explain that to
you non-racers!).
4. Discount Tire took my American Express (BFG did not but will take
Visa/MC) and they charged no tax and no shipping. I will go back to them
to get other tires in the future as they are cheaper then the factory!!!
