I believe that I have intimate experience with this problem. Parts are
available from Magnacharger at (530) 865-7010. Bill Bushling is the
owner. I did have an input shaft repaired by Babbit & Bearing in San
Jose several years ago. A new shaft is about $240.00. Don't remember
what the repair cost. There is nothing magic about removing the shaft.
Take out the capscrews holding the end plate on the blower and the shaft
and cover come off as a unit. The shaft is pressed through a double
bearing same as the support was. The bearings are the same number as the
support. I recommend replacing these bearings and the seal as long as
you have it this far apart. Check the heads of the 5/16" cap screws that
index with the flange on the shaft for wear and replace them if worn
significantly. I would also recommend that you get the area where the
two studs mount the blower to the manifold built up and remachined if
they have not already been done. On mine I installed brass pipe plugs
ant then tapped the 5/16" holes with a coarse thread and used different
studs.
The last time I saw Byron's blower it was in parts, maybe he has
reassembled it by now.
Call me at (409) 724-3763 if you have any questions or want any
assistance. I would be happy to come on over the hill for an impromptu
tech session if you want.
