Kieth, Your car is not high enough compression to start hard. I run 11:1
right now and have no starting problems at all. The big problem is the
mile of battery cable from the battery to the starter. I replaced all my
origional #2 wire with #00 Welding cable and soldered ends. I could start
a Mack truck with that cable. Mine now cranks fast at 0 degrees or 200
degrees. Stuff is easy to get at any welding shop. Just use a propane
torch to heat up then ends and solder them in. Then on the battery use
those clamps that pinch the cable but instead of putting the cable under
the pinch clamp, put the soldered on wire end under the screw for the
clamp. Works great and have not had a problem in years. It may even be
that you just need to tighten the bolts on the starter and solenoid wires
or clean any corosion off them. You might even have the ignition advanced
a few degrees too far. That will make them start hard when hot.
