Hey 
you internet bunch of no-life, beer drinking, macaroon eating party 
animals!  Late night rambling/screaming telephone calls from certain 
Board members got you down? 

Well I called the president-elect Mad Dawg at his site office at 7PM and 
he was still working! Now since that seldom happens and since he usually 
starts at 6:30AM that means he had a 12+ hour day!  Now the Dawg usually 
sends all his people home at 2:30PM and locks the site trailer behind 
them before he heads for the beach. So I was surprised when I called him 
at home and Mary Ann said he was still at work!  I wanted to know how he 
and the 'TEAM' were holding up to all the Board p-r-e-s-s-u-r-e! Or I 
quess I should rephrase that question. . .I wanted to know how certain 
Board members were holding up to the unrelenting "TEAM" pressure? :~)

As you would expect the Dawg replied, "Pressure, what pressure? I'm 
waiting for the Mayor of L.A. and Larry to stop by for a site visit and 
a brew! Now that's pressure! :~)  The Dawg's greeting as he meets his 
guys in the field every day has always been, "are we having fun yet?"

Sounds pretty corny doesn't it? But it works because his employees like 
his friends, like his family, like his TEAM and like the guys on this 
site already know, he cares about you. Which would explain why 99% of 
you have got 110% behind him. 

Well keep in mind this is the same guy who thought Nam and Saudi was 
fun! Who thinks racing down that Nevada 2-lane mountain road at 175 Mph 
is fun! Thinks bungee jumping with his 62 year old BOSS is fun!
Who thinks our cars are fun! Who takes his brood of kids PLUS their 
friends to the movies and buys everyone popcorn and candy or takes his 
people at work to lunch once a month and picks up the lunch tab! 

So, being one of the senior wise dog forum members (Jack & Forest being 
the other two old farts) I was disturbed to read that Judy was spending 
up to 30+ hours a week on POCA club business!!! It was obvious she had 
reached burn-out and was stressing out. Judy is good people and deserves 
better. Shane can help!

Where I work we call it, "working smart".  You don't want to over work 
and over stress your people. You want them motivated and alert and 
productive and as the Dawg says, "having fun". 

In my office if we have a project architect or an engineer who spends 
too much time in the office doing his or her job I usually provide some 
kind of reassuring counsel :~) to the individual's BOSS of what I expect 
from all the supervisors and managers on my team. I am always impressed 
with how well the Dawg understands that basic premise of dealing with 
people. That is keep your TEAM happy and motivated and don't be afraid 
to get in the trenches with them. 

Don't overwork, overstress or overload your people with too much work or 
too much pressure.  Lead by example, WORK SMART BUT have fun. If your 
people aren't happy or motivated your doing something very wrong. The 
Dawg understands this. Does the current POCA president?

The Dawg won't lecture you.  He won't scream at you and he won't send 
you threatening e-mails. . .He WILL help you, lead you, dawg you,  
inspire you, motivate you and he will always inspire you. . .and at the 
end of the day when your just too damn tired to be inspired any more 
he'll sit down with ya and have a cold beer and listen to what's 
happening in your life.
