First let me say I am not converting my car. However, I have to
differ with you Mike about the Motor. Neil Baron has 2 (maybe three
by now) 4.6 DOHC Panteras. He had a race shop build them for
Wilkinson to install. The shop use to do the Nissan GTP cars when
they dominated.
He reported that the shop had no problem getting 600 HP out of the
motor without changing displacement. They tuned it down for the
street and he said he had 450-500HP. He was also going to either
turbo or supercharge the motor.
Yes he has a bigger wallet than most of us, but he says the car idles
and putzes around town like a new car, but gets good milage, makes
neat noises and goes like stink. Plus it's 150 lbs or so lighter. So
there are positives to the swap, if done right.
While I personnly will stick with my 351C, I enjoy those who drop in
something neat like this. And old Panteras certainly make better use
of the 4.6 DOHC motors than the new Guara/Mangusta!
