Lunchtime Track Tour
Those folks who don't want to put their cars on the track at speed
will still have an opportunity to drive their car on the track!
During the lunchtime break, we'll have a pace-car-controlled touring
session, which will be open to everyone! This session will not
require any safety equipment or technical inspection, not even a
helmet. The touring session will be 20 minutes in length and cost
just $20. All Speed Trial participants may participate in the track
tour at no additional fee. You'll be able to purchase your Touring
Session tickets at the Thursday Registration or at the track on Friday.
Red Rock Tour (By Scott Mead, Tour Director)
Some 20 miles west off of SR 159 (Charleston Blvd.), layers of red
sandstone contrast with the gray limestone of the Keystone Thrust
Fault, or Red Rock Canyon as it is more commonly known. Back by
popular demand, the canyon walls will echo with the sound of prowling
panthers on the morning of Friday, April 23rd.
Our caravan will leave the Plaza parking lot at 9:00 AM SHARP and
Head for the hills. Once in the canyon, we'll take a 13-mile scenic
Loop road, which winds through unusual desert terrain to the
3,000-foot-high Red Rock Escarpment. We will stop off near Willow
Spring and other picturesque turnouts for photo shoots of all the
Cars and an opportunity to stretch our legs.
If you prefer, park your car and enjoy self-guiding hiking trails
which lead to springs, waterfalls, small canyons and even the ruins
of an old homestead.
Exiting the park, those who wish to return to the hotel will return
with one group, while the others will caravan directly to the track.
We will arrive in time for all to participate in the lunch time track
tour.
The Park Service charges a $5.00 fee per car to enter the park, so
remember to bring a five-spot with you.
Reserve your spot on the sign-up sheet, posted on the bulletin board,
outside the hospitality suite.
