Well, hopefully never, although I've come close recently.
But, my understanding is that lead is preferred over bondo because it
doesn't crumble under impact. Especially in places like sharp edges and
accent lines. I used (fairly light) body hammer blows to simulate this.
the "Metal-2-Metal" filler I'm also using works well on surfaces. It is
unaffected by hammer taps that leave small dents in the lead. But on an
edge it simply chips off under blows that just leave small dents in the
lead. The JB Weld seems to hold up as well or better than the lead. The
only negative is it's cost (negligible in a $K restoration) and it's
gooeyness which makes it hard to apply.
