| Subject: | Removable crossmember install? |
| Date: | Mon, 1 Mar 1999 17:29:43 -0500 |
A question for the tech heads: What's the right way to install a removable
crossmember for under the oil pan? I have a PPC (Larry) removable piece.
Larry was saying that you saw out the old piece, drill some holes in the
frame rails (!), and get bolts to install the piece.
Under my car, I see the old solid crossmember right above and between the
front lower suspension mounting bolts. Looks to me like the crossmember
needs to be sawed out (from two directions per side), the remains ground off
the frame rails, and the suspension mount bolts used to hold in the
crossmember piece. There seems to be plenty of thread extra on the suspension
mount bolts.
So, which is the right way to do this (or is there a nother way)? I'm
not planning to do this alone, but at the PCNC tech session (already
talked to Roger). Do I really need to get some fresh bolts and an
appropriate drill bit? Seems the removable piece would have to be offset
forward of its current location, and that doesn't seem right.
Those who've done it, what's the story?
Thanks!
