My favorite detector (even though I don't own one - several of my buddies
do) is the Valentine 1. It doesn't false as much as my BEL cordless, is
slightly more sensitive, and the ability to tell which direction the threat
is is just plain fantastic.
It ain't cheap, but it's really _built_. This is not a detector that you
need to worry about it lasting. It'll take significant abuse, unlike most
plastic detectors.
My second choice would be my BEL cordless. It has the significant advantage
of running on AA batteries. No lighter cord hassles. And it runs longer
than you would think on two AA batteries. I've crossed the country and back
again with it on a single set of batteries. The BEL goes ape-shit when hit
with instant-on radar - you almost pull your foot out of the loud pedal as a
reflex when it does it's instant-on radar light and beep show. :-)
