John,
FWIW, I not only have a radar detector but also carry a police scanner w/ 100
pre programmable channels. I have all CHP frequencies and any other law
enforcement FREQ's that might be on my route. These FREQ's are available on
the Internet. My radar detector covers X (used by some CHP) K (used by most
CHP) and laser (I don't know who uses it but it sounds real scary when it
goes off). The radar detector (uniden 1900 LRD) was a $29.95 close out
special at my local Walmart.
My scanner is a pro-71 available at Radio shack for $99.95 The scanner has an
aircraft band but the CHP's aircraft FREQ'S has been blocked (at least the
one I have is) If you know an electronics student at a local community
college I hear that these blockers can be removed fairly easy, no comment on
the legality of that.
I cannot count the times I have slowed down and let another car by, not
because I see the cop but because the detector has gone off or I have
overheard chat on the scanner that has included a mile marker location, only
to see the guy who passed me being pulled over a few miles ahead.
Nothing can beat common sense and the powers of observation, but why not use
every available tool you have at your disposal. The only other
alternative......
SPEED KILLS..... PLAY IT SAFE & BUY A CHEVY!
