I made an inquiry to the folks I get my tires from about this too... and took it
one step further in trying iron something out in my head.....
I understand the (supposed) performance issues of a taller rim, shorter
sidewall. Less flex and/or roll and all that.... OK, how then do you explain F1
and Indy cars.... they certainly don't adhere to this philosophy and look at the
performance of an F1 car.... are we all just being led down the primrose path by
the tire and rim companies...??? In a couple of years will will all be clamoring
for our 15" wheels because of some new performance tests??
