These have been around for a couple of years. They are intended for race
cars and do not have enough output (about 35A as I recall) for a street
driven Pantera with electric fans, air conditioning, halogen lights,
cell phone, etc. The other down side is that if the alternator fails you
also have to buy a water pump or if the pump fails you buy an alternator

Subject: Water Pump/Alternator

Saw on one of the hot rod TV shows a Stewart water pump with the
alternator mounted under the water pump's drive pulley. The pulley
serves dual purpose as it is the alternator's stator thingy and the
windings are mounted to the water pump body. Pretty cool for space
saving, the pump was for a SBC. Couldn't tell the height from the camera
angle. BUT kinda pricey at around 500 bucks..... Don't know if they make
em for Fords...
