You CAN, but you won't be happy with the way it runs....

Yes! But test it with a vacuum gun first. Unless you are absolutely sure its
the Vac unit on the distributor that is leaking. If its the stock Ford unit,
take it with you to your local parts guy. It can be had for about $20.
