Joern,

If I remember correctly a traditional GL4 has additives that make the gearbox synchros work well and a GL5 has additives that make a limited slip differential work well.
The two types kind of work against each other and my guess is that ZF prefers that the limited slip works less well and the gear synchros work as well as possible.

I followed the earlier discussion about gear oil, and made a phone call too
ZF Norway. They told me that the only oil to be used on a ZF 5-DS-25 is
API GL4 (must not use API GL5, he said ??). SAE 80, SAE 80/85 or SAE 80/90
could be used. He prefered fully syntetic oil.
I donét understand this ! What about the diffrential ?
He gave me aproved oils from his list and here is some of them:

Mobil 1
Mobilube 1 SHC (fully syntetic)
Mobilube GXA
Mobilube XHP
Mobiltrans SHC

Castrol
Dynadrive 80W90
Syntrans
EP SAE80W

Can anybody confirm this information ??
