A ZF with unknown history is probably worth about $1500, tops.  These things 
generally aren't removed from a car unless they're worn out, etc. and a 
rebuild can cost easily $3000 or more.

Even brand-new, never used ZF's are usually junk inside, 'cause they rust up 
big-time from sitting with half the gears submerged in oil and the other half 
exposed to the air.  Personally, I'd be very leery of buying a gearbox like 
yours unless I personally took it apart and inspected it--your gearbox could 
be perfect, or it could be totally useless except for the case!
