Well, the Fun Run to La Forza, and Deer Park was a
success. We had a great turnout of about 18 Panteras and
45 people, minus MD, who was apparently sleeping-off the
effects of the Friday night TPR pizza party. :-) Curt T was even
kind enough to drive up to Orange County to join us for the convoy
down to his area. We had a beautiful parade of cars going down
the 5 fwy along the coast with gorgeous weather.
Around Oceanside, Kerry (Sparky) Shaw decides to start up his
barbeque early, with a burst of smoke from the back of his Pantera
which began erupting into flames two cars ahead of me. Immediately
everyone pulls over, and we start running over with fire extinguishers.
Three of us got the fire put out, and boy did the sight of all the
Panteras
parked at the side of the road stop traffic! WOW, pretty exciting.
Kerry's mechanical oil sending line had melted, and sprayed oil onto
the header-rap material, starting the fire. Sure, his engine is a
Big-Block
Chevy, but that wasn't what caused the fire. :-) Amazingly Kerry got
the leak stopped, cleaned up the car, and joined us later at La Forza.
La Forza was interesting, about 30 SUV's in various stages of assembly,
and about 10 Monster Miata. Very impressive little car, the Monster
Miata, sounded great, alot of bang for your buck. They want the car to
be on par with Shelby Cobras, but ...eh......I don't know. Nice people
there at La Forza, treated us well, but NO test drives, DAMN!
Next we went to Deer Park Winery and Car Museum. Fun time, quite
a collection of mostly convertibles from all eras, in addition to all
sorts
of signage and home appliances. I'd recommend seeing it at least
once, but be prepared, alot of these cars haven't had a wash in years!
A fun day, made even more exciting by Kerry's spontaneous
Chevy Cook-Off. We're all very glad he didn't suffer the same fate as
MD.
