I agree with you on the old planes, and most of the jets.  I was the
same way until the first time I heard the TEB hit a J-58....  Now
there is a motor....The "top fueler" of Jets!!??  Set one of those on
full burner, listen to the cacophony and witness the pulse cones.....
nothing ho-hum there.

Any mechanical device that strains to extricate itself from its
moorings has got to get your emotions up.
