I'd say that in a street-driving situation, (modern) EFI will perform
better than carbs. Dyno tests are really a fantasy environment,
not taking into account varied RPM needs, poor driver throttling,
gas quality, barometric/temperature and humidity concerns, etc.

Modern EFI are positive loop-back systems, monitoring themselves and the
environment, and modifying the response to such inputs, varying
valve timing and air/gas mixture (and even valve control in Honda's VTEC).

In the stop and go of commuting/shopping/blasting the Blue Ridge Road,
EFI will perform better, and return good fuel efficiency.

But if I wanted EFI, I'd buy a Viper/Cobra/NSX. No compter-controlled
cars for me, thanks. If I cannot directly contol the venturis with
a purely mechanical system (ahhhh...just a simple cable and rod system
for carbs), then the whole visceral experience of driving our older
high-performance cars is lost.

Its all about what turns your crank.
