I weighed half-a-dozen Panteras both L & pre-L at a Nor-Cal tech session in
'98, and ALL weighed at least 3200 lbs with an unknown amount of gas in their
tanks @ 6.8 lbs/gallon. The 'L' bumpers F & rear weigh around 70 lbs with
their mount rams.

Also, how much torque is a stock ZF rated to withstand?..... Trying to
determine how far one can go in building up their Cleveland before the ZF
becomes suspect.

Jr Wilson buckled a stock ZF to a 572-inch Boss 429 pro-stock motor that
dynoed @ just under 900 horses & enough torque to re-rotate the Earth. His
only ZF failure was in getting his stock-body Pantera airborn @ over 240 mph
and not backing off; the shock load on landing snapped the input shaft
off....So try to stay on the ground.

While I'm at it, does anyone have the factory HP and TQ ratings for the
various factory engine offerings (just two? pre-L and L?). >>

Each year, the Ford factory modified the engines and changed the way they
checked for 'advertized horsepower' which was mostly science-fiction.
Chiltons motor manual which lies less than the factories, says "1972: 351CJ-
248@5400/290-ft-lbs@3800. 351HO- 266@5400; 301ft-lbs@3600. 1973: 351-8
w/4bbl: 248@5400 /290-ft-lbs@3800. (no HO offered). 1974: 351-8- 255@5600
/290-ft-lbs@3800. (no HO offered). Don't have Chiltons for '71. Cheers- J
