I'm curious Jack, why does a steam roller need 5 speeds forward? Around
here, Cal Trans is always in reverse!

The original use was apparently in a thing called a "Fendt Roller"- used in
(steam) rolling new asphalt flat in Europe! It was EXTENSIVELY redesigned
for
the mid-60s GT-40 race cars, then the Mangusta, the Pantera, the Maserati
Bora and Merak, the BMW M-1 and other high-powered mid-engined supercars.
