Hello All:
As I continue to wait for the POR-15 to arrive and my chance to get a
large sheet of Dynamat tomorrow, I decided to do the mirror kit
refinishing. As you know, these don't come from the factory painted! So
I bought some of the Valspar painting systems for the cat only to get
dinged about $300! I didn't realize that it took that much just to get
the paint! I have more respect for reputable body and fender types and
will complain less in the future about the work and prices they charge!
In any event, I sealed the mirror housings after taping up the contact
area that is supposed to be cemented to the window. Tomorrow, the
computer matched basecoat goes on. After that, I'm putting on the
clearcoat and color sanding if necessary. This initial painting exercise
is giving me more confidence in painting the cat. I'm going to panel
paint the driver side door once the POR arrives. I'll worry about the
insulation stuff later. I decided to send off the inside door panels to
a place that professionaly repairs them. I was quoted $500 for a pair of
good door panels and I figure if a repair can go under $200, then I'm
stylin' !
After the driver side door is done, it's off to the passenger side. So
far, I found that all the Ducellier window motors have brass gearing
inside that widow "transaxle". Cool! No need to buy that stuff from any
of the vendors. Next, the carburetor is of prime importance, followed by
the frontal luggage compartment and all of its current aesthetic
maladies.
I once mentioned that I was going on a personal Pantera vacation up to a
buddies house in Seattle. Well, not this year until all of these issues
have been addressed however, I'm actually enjoying this blow-by-blow
restoration/restomod situation that I'm in! Stay tuned. Cal #2428.
