Hi guys,
Just got the 50th anniversary issue of Motor Trend magazine (got a free gift
subscription awhile back.) Matt Stone's influence appears to be
well-applied, for there's plenty of Pantera throughout the issue.
Besides having a 1984 Pantera and 1967 GT-500 on the cover (surrounded by a
bunch of lesser cars), there is an article inside by Matt Stone, in which the
staff of the magazine picks THE most important car of the past 50 years.
The car they picked was none other than the Shelby Cobra, and the full test
that Matt (the lucky bastard) performed was on none other than the FIRST
Cobra, CSX 2000. It's a great story, with wonderful photography, and makes
it worthwhile to pick up the magazine.
As an aside, each editor also listed his favorite 10 cars, and well over half
of them listed various Shelby products, including Cobra, GT-40 and Shelby
Mustangs. Interestingly (considering the years of bad press these major
magazines liked to sling around), there were several others who listed the
Pantera among their choices (one thoughtfully included a beautiful photo of a
yellow single-slot pushbutton car), and Matt (a DeTomaso softie from way
back, and prior owner of a Pantera and also a Longchamp) listed the DeTomaso
Mangusta, and as his #11 choice, a Group 4 Pantera.
Anyway, go spend the bucks. It's worth it for the Cobra article...
