Hello again:
Just wanted to comment on a few more items. I did get some suggestions
regarding the engine pull. A power ratchet gun is also on "order" from one
friend as the picker and stand are from another.
On the carb. On my lunchtime, I took the floatbowls to check the accelerator
pumps. Last night, I completely degreased the entire two. Today, I took a
look at those accelerator pumps. One seems fine. The other seemed awfully
"spongy" when compared to one of the replacement diaphrams. Incidentally,
some of these parts are coming from the Holley trick kit. I haven't used any
(what I think) critical parts such as the power valve and such and just
wondered if there is a difference in the accel pumps I found. The old ones
had black rubber while the new ones had green rubber. Otherwise, the
apparent volumes (when compared side by side) seem pretty identical. I
didn't use the other accel pump because it looked like it threw more fuel
than the originals or the replacments.
Also, I totally reassembled the baseplate and associated components. These
had been cleaned two days ago. The only hang up was the fast idle cam
assembly. The drawings didn't seem clear but after 15 minutes, I figured the
assembly out. Seems to come together just fine.
In any event, the air horn assembly and metering plates are next on
tomorrow's lunch agenda. The trick kit apparently has some replacement
gaskets that I will CLOSELY inspect against the originals. We'll see what
transpires. I don't want to have to install the carb, start it up, and have
the engine screaming uncontrollably from some unbridled fuel flow problem.
O.k. Nuff said. Cal #2428R.
