Subject:Update - Ring Frustration

Gary and David D. were quick with suggestions and insights back to me -
thanks.

While my instructions don't specify which ring goes on top. David concurs
with me that it is the ring w/o the beveled inside edge.

The instructions do specify end gaps of .016/.018 for the top ring and
010"/.012" for the second. This news
is disappointing as the engine shop gaped all the rings to .016. Whichever
set of rings are the secondaries, I surmise that they are thrash as their
end gaps are too large. Sounds like I'm in for an interesting discussion
with the engine shop on Monday.

I'll be darned if I'm carting the whole assembly over there again. I'm
going to demand they send someone over to my house with a replacement set of
compression rings and a gapper. I assume they use a machine that sizes the
rings automatically. Are they portable or could they use that as an excuse
to get me to drag everything back over there. That block is really heavy
now with the caps, crank and cam installed. All negotiation tips are
welcome.
