I did pay with a credit card and was, in fact their first customer to do so!
Actually, they hadn't gotten their swiper machine yet.  You make an
interesting observation about the reputation of companies that do not take
cards.  I have only done biz with a handful of machine shops in the past and
none ever accepted credit cards.  I'll need to pay more attention to this in
the future.  I'll keep this 'ace' in the hole and trump with it only if the
discussion turns nasty.  At that point, they may rethink their credit card
strategy.
