In my opinion replicas are great for rag top sports such as Cobras and Lotus
7s, because they are much easier for the manufacturures to make and the kit
builder to build/finish than an enclosed coupe. Also these cars are normally
used for summer blasting around and not winter lugging (there is nothing
worse than a leaking car in the winter with ice on the inside of the
screen...) Other than that replicas make great track/hill climb cars, lots
of power little weight.
Part of what makes the Pantera great is it's history and the fact it was
designed along the lines of mass production, ok it wasn't the success that
was hoped for BUT they still made 5-6k of them, and it outperformed pretty
much everything at the time except for the top speed of the top line Ferrari
BB and Lambo Countach, but who's fastest now.....
Apart from the rust problems that monocoupe contruction brings our cars are
far more practical than others of the era.
PS I still want a Lancia Stratos (Replica) but I think I would miss those
cubes
