As long as you're checking each connection, i. e. undoing each connector, you
might try using Cramoline contact cleaner on each one. The electrical
gremlins in my buddy's XJ6 disappeared after he took out the dash and
Cramolined every connector in back of the dash and in the engine compartment.

Since this car has Lucas wiring, try checking each connection for
higher-than-normal (?) resistance. IMHO, most cases of too-high current flow
comes from either a poor hot-connection or a bad ground.
