BIG THANKS to all the guys who answered on this one,  BTW I'm I only get
pissed when I get stuck, the drive home today on full juice brought back a
huge grin :-)

So putting all the pieces together

The alternator 'should' give out enough juice in my situation (stock fans,
daytime driving, no radio), often rev to 3000 rpm even in traffic.

A battery conditioner will help with those lay ups when in rains ,I ain't
worried about driving in the wet BUT cars rust over here, BTW most UK 70's P
are rusty :-(

If it won't start when hot, (it does when the battery is charged) a new
starter can help

Check that battery, it might be new but it could have failed
