Subject:Ignition Problem - Ford Pointer less Ignition module color coding meaning?
Date: Mon, 4 Oct 1999 21:59:39 -0400

Hi all you Pantera 'mechanics'!

My Pantera 73 just died while being out there having fun this past weekend -
found no sparks so it had to be towed home. :(

Still have not been able to see any sparks - guess it's the Ford ignition
module (this is an altered ignition system made up of all Ford Motorsport
parts and Pointer less distributor and ignition module.

My plan is to exchange the module with a different one - but while
browsering the local wreck yard today I found there is a number of different
modules circulating and the only difference I found out is the colour coding
at the bottom of the module where the cables comes out. DOES ANY ONE KNOW
WHAT THIS CODING STANDS FOR?

I got a RED one with only 6 cables coming out of the module.
Orange/purple/white/red/black/green
No parts number!
It just says HEAVY DUTY and some written codes as 3AB 9396, OBE-10

Most have 7-8 cables coming out of them - and going to the local Ford dealer
parts store does not do you any good since all they want to know is: what
YEAR, what CAR MODEL, how many DOORS etc and since this is an altered system
I have to figure it out all myself!!!!

Also does anyone know where to find the Ford Motorsport ignition wireing
schema?

And how a proper Ford all parts ignition system should be installed?
I guess many of you guys out there drive with altered ignition systems....
Any books or web sites you can recommend would help.

thx
