My method is to cut a 1" square piece of bike inner-tube or water-bed patch
and glue it to the outside of each channel at the very back, such that any
shift of the decklid causes the edge of the lid to contact a thin rubber
surface rather than metal-to-metal. This cheap 'n easy method has prevented
paint chips for 10 yrs so far on Judy's car, and is not noticable when the
lid is closed. It does show when opened, though. My 2¢- J deRyke
