Subject:New Engine Startup Problems
Date: Tue, 9 Nov 1999 19:30:26 -0500

I have a new 351 Windsor I bought as a long block. I have installed it and
am having problems with the initial cranking:
I have set the timing to about 6 degrees BTDC
I have checked and recheck the plug wires

What happens is I get a lot of fire coming back up through the carb while
cranking. If it does crank it feels like it is running on about 4
cylinders.

The firing order I am using is:1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

What could be wrong??
Can I check the cam degreeing without tearing the front of the engine apart?

Any ideas are much appreciated?
