A fledgling group here in Texas is planning the first "shoot out on the
street" of the new millennium. The idea is to see who is king of the street
in three categories, (1) streetability; (2) drag racing; and (3) road
racing. The rules will be pretty minimalist, and the event is open to all
street cars of any make, model, year or state of "tune." Category one will
be designed to keep pure "race" cars out of the fray, so the rest of us
don't feel like we brought knives to a gunfight.

When: April or May 2000
Where: North Texas: The Texas Motorplex, Motor sport Ranch, and the Streets
of North Texas

We are sending you this message because we think you may be interested. The
idea is a race for and by the participants, so we want your input! Please
give us your information and thoughts on the following:

1. About You:

Name
Address
E-mail
Telephone numbers
Car(s) you would bring (make, model, year, other info of interest):

2. Dates:

When in April and May would you be willing to come to North Texas?

How long would you like to come (weekend, 3-day weekend, etc)?

Would you like to have this event in proximity to the Texas Roundup being
organized in Uvalde?

3. Rules:

A. General

Do you favor classes and if so how to segregate them?

Do you favor allowing tire changes between events or using the same tires
for everything?

Do you favor allowing NO2 or banning it? Are refills allowed?

Do you favor forcing participants to make no tuning or setup changes or
allowing changes?

Do you favor requiring emissions legality (including tailpipe sniffer
testing) or not?

B. Street

What makes a car genuinely streetworthy and how can we measure this in a
fair and quantitative way?

TSD rally with some traffic, idling thrown in?

Subjective criteria like A/C, stereo, "ergonomics," other amenities; do they
count?

How do we separate the "race" from "street" cars so the latter can compete?

C. Drag

Do you favor any bracket component or should it be heads-
up?

Do you favor separate points for mph and E.T. or does E.T. rule?

Do you favor allowing setup changes like slicks & skinnies or just pull up
to the line and run?

How many passes should a competitor get and should they be averaged or
select the best?

D. Road Race

Do you favor solo time trials; from a standing start or on the fly?

Do you favor allowing setup changes?

How many laps per competitor and averages or best?

4. Miscellaneous

Any suggestions or caveats?

What have we forgotten?

Thanks in advance

Texas Triathlon Team
