Subject:Hydraulic-cam rockers - Standard vs Boss
Date: Thu, 9 Dec 1999 09:53:31 -0500

The 4V open chamber heads installed on Bob Czaja's Pantera have a rocker arm
assemble that looks like the Boss or 72 HO head's assemble - but not quite.
It has screw in studs, a flat pedestal and guide plates. However it does not
have the large adjusting nut seen in Ganahl's book (page 80) or the oil
deflectors that are on the standard rocker assembly - only a standard nut.
There is no oil deflectors for the sled fulcrum and the standard rocker
deflectors will not fit because of the size of the studs.

Should there be some form of oil deflector on this assemble to get oil to
the sled fulcrum? Does the oil get deflected by the large adjusting nut on
the boss heads or the 72 HO heads or is this not a concern?

Also, we assume that you adjust these rockers by setting their tension
individually when the lifter for each valve is on the base of the cam - Then
loosing the tension for each rocker individually while the car is running
until the rocker starts tapping then tighten the rocker by 1/4 to 1/2 turn -
Just like you would for a mechanical cam.

We tried to set them when the car was running and they all had some slack
but it was just too noisy. Maybe on a Chevy with engine up front and the
exhaust in back but not on these bad boys!

Thanks...
