I would like to go but won't be able to forecast my availability until about a month prior.  And then of course it's six months too late to sign up.

If we'd had more time (and I don't mean more advance notice of the event itself, but rather more time between the initial announcement and the final deadline to register), then you would probably see attendence much higher.  For example, the POCA convention has a hotel-imposed cutoff of 30 days prior for hotel room reservations, but you can register for the event right up to and on the day of the event itself; you can also cancel with a full refund right up to the eve of the event.

That makes a BIG difference....
