However, Ford has a full set of records.  Bill in Texas turned me onto this.  
If you phone 1-800-392-FORD a customer service rep will handle your query, 
and in a few days you'll get something in the mail.

I just tried this, the only thing they sent me was a decode of my VIN (which 
is readily available in the parts book); I have to phone them back and ask 
for more specific information.  Supposedly they can tell you the history of 
your car, i.e. when it arrived in the USA, which dealer it was sold through, 
original color, etc. etc.
