Subject:Radiator/fans-zippy ties or brkts.?

Thanks, ya'll have gave me insight, screws and brackets it is!
After careful measuring I've got a good 3/8in before hitting the the
first row of cooling fins.In fact it looks like the first row isn't even
used as cooling tubes. The actual cooling tubes start on the next row
up.So it should be a piece of cake,as Jack would say!Welcome back
Mr.DeRyke, good to have you online again.
Thanks for your help gang,
Matt

I have seen those zippy ties make radiators leak. On guy that came to
my
place had this happen and we had to repair his radiator. When i attatch
the fans, I make a small angle bracket and screw them into the top and
bottom plates of the radiator that way there is no possible way for the
fan
to rub against the core and make it leak. I use 3 or 4 screws on the
top
and bottom. Just a short 1/2 inch # 6 machine screw works fine.

Dunno which radiator you're using, but if its got a stock rad frame, the
frame clears the core inside by about 0.150" or maybe more. This is
plenty to
drill (CAREFULLY!) and add SHORT sheet metal screws to mount a bracket
for
virtually any fan set-up you wish. On the subject, I can put you in
touch
with a local guy who punched through a core tube on a brand-new
aftermarket
radiator, trying to use those plastic ties. The core tubes are only
0.015"
wall thickness and do not like direct contact with other than air.
Good luck-

I have a large sucker fan and two stock (I think) pusher fans on my car.
The sucker fan is attached to the top and bottom edge of the radiator
frame
with screws. An attachment solution like this might work for you.
I'm
going out to check on the progress of my car today so I will take some
pictures and put them on my web site. They should be posted in the
valance
project section before noon your time today.

Cal and others,
Thought I'd join the P2K club and drop a line on my latest task at
hand.I need a little advice as well.
I've assembled all the parts to upgrade the 27,make that 28 year old
stock cooling system.I gave in and decided to go with the laydown rad
with dual sucker fans.
I remember a concern Mike D.had awhile back with no support for the fans
on the bottom of the rad.
My dual fan kit(Flex-a-lite,Summit) came with some useless plastic
brkts.and the thru the core zippy tye things.
I'm not crazy about spearing my brand new $600 rad(PrecisionProFormance)
with the zippy things and question possible damage to the core tubes
after miles of vibration and the weight of the fans supported by these
things.Seems to me they could eventually work their way down onto the
tubes causing damage down the road so to speak.
Am I worried over nothing?Should I look into a bracket type alternative?
I've enclosed a link for visual-

(sorry for the slow load, amateur page guy at work)
Opinions,ideas?
Happy P2K!
