Having removed an early dash and installed a late one, I'm here to tell you 
that they do NOT work identically.  The basics are the same, but the L-model 
is rather simpler; it essentially just bolts in on the sides, while the Pre-L 
is more involved, and bolts in on the top and bottom too.  I had to fabricate 
mounting points on the car to install the L-model dash, since most of the 
Pre-L mounting points aren't used with the L-dash and vice-versa.

The basics are the same, but the devil is in the details! :>)
