All,
As I have the engine out, I thought I would replace the pilot bearing. I
ordered a standard one for the 351C. The part I received was a needle
bearing, rolling directly on the trans input shaft. It didn't seem to fit
tight on the shaft. The one sitting in my engine is, as I can see, a sealed
prelubed ball bearing.
Searcing the archives I found a discussion on which type bearing to use.
J.DeRyke recommended to use a Corvair bushing. Is this a "no moving parts"
plain bushing? (I have never seen a pilot bearing before!).
I would like to hear your opinion on which type bearing to use. And, should
I fill the cavity behind the bushing/bearing with grease?
In advance, Thanks.
