That would be nice.  I'm in the same boat, looking for a new distributor.  I
have my old one and the OD on the cap is 4".  But my old one is an
electronic version, not a points version.  The catalog says that the 8350 is
5/8" smaller than the stock distributor, but it looks to me like it is 3/4"
bigger.  I can measure the height this evening.  It looks like 4.5" diameter
is just about the max before it would interfere with my Edelbrock dual plane
intake.  I have 2V heads and a 2V intake, so this might be different with 4V
heads and intake.
