You're right, there are no springs in a ZF limited slip. But I wasn't too surprised at this since some other limited-slips use clutch plates that are also Belleville springs, coned slightly. They compress into their diff housing and magically- springs! And after 28 years inside the diff, I didn't expect much coning to be left so frankly didn't check beyong noting that the plate stack is slightly taller than the housing they fit into, so something's compressing somewhere during assembly! As for the self-energizing method you suggest, it's intriguing. I'll see if I can understand it from tearing down my spare ZF in the garage. Cheers- J DeRyke
